For many hundreds years people of different nationalities call Latgale their home. The five airs on the coat of arms of our town symbolize the nationalities living in Kraslava: Latvians, Poles, Jews, Russians and Belarusians. For many years, living side by side, meeting together at one table on holidays and every day, people of different nationalities shared the secrets of their traditional cuisine.

Kraslava district folklore and recipes passed from generation to generation over the centuries. The dishes prepared with love and warmth of their cooks show Latgale as a multicultural region, characterized by an open society, enriched by taste of various national dishes of every nationality. The cuisine of people living in Latgale appeared when traditional recipes were creatively transformed by using local Latgalian culinary experience. Everyone can enjoy the Latgalian hospitality through our eating culture, which brings together different traditions, taste the dishes and look into the soul of people living here.

Thanks to Kraslava district cooks, it is possible to get acquainted with our culinary heritage, which has been passed from generation to generation, ensuring the preservation of recipes for future.

The exhibition covers the period from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day.
